THE MOST MISERABLE CHRISTMAS TREE
is available for production this holiday season!

With its whimsical settings and completely original
story, the musical is versatile enough to be presented
in any theatre, no matter how large or small. The World Premiere production at Narrows Community Theater featured a large cast (40 people!) but the show can be performed by as few as 12.

In addition, THE MOST MISERABLE CHRISTMAS TREE has a number of materials at the ready to aid theaters with limited resources in producing the show.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

Picture

Douglas Fir
- Male, 30s, Tenor or Baritone, Any Ethnicity. A blue collar, discarded Christmas Tree who will stop at nothing to be decorated for Christmas once again. Douglas is well meaning and kind, but his ambition gets the best of him and he becomes the Most Miserable Christmas Tree. Role can include tap dancing.

Filbert T. Squirrel - Male, 15-20s, Tenor, Any Ethnicity. A manic, high energy, thieving squirrel who gets around the forest via a child’s scooter. He is Douglas’ “worst friend”, and has an on-and-off romance with Silver, a snowflake. Physically and vocally agile, and able to rap.

Miss Willow - Female, 20s-30s, Soprano, Any Ethnicity. A pretty, overly emotional willow tree that teaches at Miss Balsam’s Finishing School for Christmas Trees. Douglas' love interest.

Silver - Female, 15-20s, Rock Belter, Any Ethnicity. A rocker snowflake that now works as border patrol on Mistletoe Mountain to pay off her band’s debts caused by her ex, Filbert. Silver is normally “cool”, but has a temper that can cause snow flurries and even freeze someone in a block of ice.

Picture
Miss Balsam - Female, 40s-70s, Alto, Any Ethnicity. A brittle, greedy haggard old tree that runs a finishing school. She believes that every tree is defined by their family legacy, but it turns out that there might be a secret from her family tree that she hopes to never reveal.

Sprig - Boy, 9-13, Tenor, Any Ethnicity. Sprig is a young, wide-eyed and enthusiastic orphan Christmas tree. He has an active imagination that occasionally causes him to lie in class. He dreams that his father might be the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. Role can include tap dancing.

Frasier Fir, Lucy Spruce, Virginia Pine and Blanche Noble - Male & Female, Teen-20s, Any Ethnicity. Sprig's fellow student trees in Miss Willow's class. A preppy nerd, a class misfit, the star athlete, and the southern belle... All colorful characters fun for children or adults playing children!

Picture
Beheaded Doll Trash, Depressed Tree Trash, Box Trash - Females, 18-40s, Any Ethnicity. The Doll, Box and Tree Trash are three disgruntled, sassy Christmas items which have been thrown in the dumpster for good. They believe you only get one chance in life, and their chance is over. Must be strong vocalists and dancers.

Mom, Dad, Grandma, Jenny, Kevin - Male & Female, All Ages & Ethnicities. Your classic all-American family from any holiday story. These are goofy people that love to celebrate Christmas in the moment, but are happier when it’s done and over with each year.

Ensemble - Male & Female, All Ages & Ethnicities. Student Trees, New Yorkers, Snowflake Backup Singers, Tinsel Dancers, Carolers. Strong vocalists and dancers. Can be large or small!
